OK Harris (Ivan Karp) and Me
Legendary art dealer Iven Karp was runs the OK Harris Gallery in Soho, New York in the 1960s, and is the one who discovered Andy Warhol and Roy Liechtenstein to open a 'Pop Art' period in contemporary art history.
He pass away in 2012, and I had a solo exhibition at OK Harris Gallery at his invitation in June 2000, and the picture below is with him at the gallery about 10 years before he pass away.
Despite its global fame and authority he always treated me thoughtful such like a grandfather. It was the time when I was just over 40, when Soho of New York played a role as the center of art around the world.
One of the exhibition works "The Mass" by OK Harris was published in a Korean secondary art textbook (Kyohaksa/2001).

전설적 아트딜러 아이반 카프(Iven Karp)는 1960년대 뉴욕 소호에서 OK 헤리스(Harris) 갤러리를 운영하며, 앤디워홀, 로이 리힉텐스타인을 발굴하여 현대미술사에 ‘팝아트’의 장을 연 장본인이다.
그는 2012년 영면하였는데, 나는 2000년 6월 그의 초대로 OK 헤리스 갤러리에서 개인전을 가졌었고, 아래의 사진은 그가 영면하기 10년전쯤 갤러리에서 그와 함께 한 사진이다.
세계적인 명성과 권위에도 불구하고 나에게는 늘 자상한 할아버지처럼 대하여 주었는데, 그때 내 나이는 갓 40을 넘겼었고 뉴욕의 소호(SoHo)가 전 세계 미술의 중심으로서 역할을 할 때였다.
OK 헤리스에서의 전시작품 “미사(The Mass)”는 한국의 중등미술 교과서(교학사/2001년)에 실려 출간되었다.
